READ-A-LOUD TAPE

Sharing a BOOK

You are creating a tape which you can use with your students.  Therefore, you will want to create as clear a sound recording as possible.

Look at the rubric for read-a-loud tapes -- and the various areas which will be graded.

1.  Mark the tape cassette container with:
             -book title
             -book author
2.  Mark the TAPE with  name of book/author
3.  Before you turn the tape recorder on,
         PRACTICE/PRACTICE/PRACTICE!!!
4.  Open the reading by stating your name, and the name of the book
     being read.
When you do this tape, be clear to give
                  -full title
                  -author
                  -illustrator
                  -publisher/date
Say a little something about why you wanted to read this particular book
     and invite the reader in!
5.  Something else to add might be any special things about the book for
the student to notice -- i.e., dedication, glossary at the back, endpages,
    design/layout of page etc. etc.
6.  Read loud enough to be heard, but without shouting.  Playback will let

you know if your volume is adequate.
7.  If you stumble, start again.  Be certain that you read EVERY word that
is on the page; some students may be finger pointing and need the exact
     correspondence to work!
8.  Finally, get a zip-loc bag which will hold your book and the tape.
Or any other sturdy case you can devise....  Books on tape are generally
housed in a plastic hanging case, with book inside.

***You are encouraged to use more than one "voice" when possible!  The tape
I am sending to Ms. Goble's class makes the "Rock" a star!!
